  • Orphanage
  • Girls' boarding school
  • Discharged
  • Half-board
  • Nursery School.

26th July 1890

New works are being carried out

A timeline is a graphical representation in which important events are marked.

The owners of the Caserón, the Palace of Lazán, which was once the General Headquarters of the War of Independence (1808), the Counts of Bureta, granted it free of charge in perpetual usufruct to the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, with the obligation to establish one of the following options within it:

  • an orphanage
  • a nursery school
  • a school for external girls
  • or to attend to charitable causes of the religious institute itself.

Over the years, establishments such as the Orphanage School, which was in the building on C/ Don Juan de Aragón, are set up in the Casa de Palafox, which moves to the new building.

1909

The uses of the building are increasing

In 1909, the Coronation Asylum was established, founded by Cardinal Soldevilla, on the occasion of the Coronation of the Virgin of the Pillar (20-5-1905), for children in precarious economic situations.

Also, at the beginning of the century, the Convalescent Asylum was established to care for those who, upon leaving the Provincial Hospital, had nowhere to go and lacked family to look after them.

In the premises of the building, an orphanage is opened by the Conferences of Ladies of Saint Vincent de Paul, which is granted by the Community of the Daughters of Charity, offering classes in General Culture and Workshop.

In addition, at the beginning of the century, the San Antonio Schools were opened, with a half-board, external and nursery. The Ladies of the Conferences of Saint Vincent de Paul take charge, where the Daughters of Charity collaborate.

All these works have evolved over time. Finally transforming into a school, initially funded, and at this moment state-funded, where efforts are made to meet the educational and social needs of the surrounding environment.

But, there comes a time when the material conditions of the Palace of Lazán are not suitable for the development of the educational service, and a total intervention in the old building becomes necessary.

The Community of the Daughters of Charity chooses to leave the usufruct to the Heirs of General Palafox, reverting the property entirely to its owners, Don Alonso Cuevas de Toledo, Marquis of Miraflores and Duke of Zaragoza, and others (undivided property along with 17 owners).

Thus, the School is consolidated from the perspective of its facilities, in relation to the current situation. It has access from three streets: San Vicente de Paúl, Don Juan de Aragón, and Arco del Deán. It is located in the Old Town of the City and has suitable facilities to carry out its Educational-Social service.
